After publication of the first series of Anglers' Evenings in 1880 some criticism was put forward that there were no illustrations.  Hence, for the second series some reputable illustrators such as George Sheffield and W G Baxter were recruited to help.  The latter was employed by London publications such as "Punch" to illustrate, even, their front page. While in Manchester Baxter drew portraits of various Manchester Anglers including the one above.  There also exists a menu (Jan 1881) whose front cover has a group of "cartoon" pictures of the officers of the Association all having bodies of fish.  Col Mawson was a first class illustrator himself and some of his pictures still exist.
